Něco na tom je Jane Russell which could have made this drama work, but instead it becomes a draggy dialog driven bore where you struggle to find a meaningful purpose beyond that never ending courtship. The acting is actually super smooth. Shame to see the efforts go to waste on something as uninteresting as the Mladá vdova (1946).

Edwin L. Marin’s drama in which an inconsolable war widow encounters a young Lieutenant, but rejects him for attempting too hard to win her affection. Will she give him another opportunity? The story concerns a young widow, Joan Kenwood (Jane Russell), who attempts to defeat the reminiscences of her perished husband. Jane Russell gives a good performance in her role as Joan Kenwood, the war widow who is finding it really hard to put the memories of her deceased husband behind her. You can tell that she really loved him and misses him a lot. Elsewhere, there are decent performances to be had from Louis Hayward, Kent Taylor and Marie Wilson in their respective parts as Jim Cameron, Peter Waring…

Lee Garmes’ soft-focus photography (rendered even softer by the muddy print that ran on TCM) gives an elegiac, dreamy quality to this post-war romance in which Jane Russell plays a war widow too haunted by memories of her late husband to immediately fall into the arms of dashing pilot Louis Hayward. Hayward’s air of distracted amusement gives the film some valuable eccentricity, but Russell doesn’t seem depressed so much as sleepily apathetic — wounded, wilted flower of feminine delicacy wasn’t really her forte as an actor. Meanwhile Garmes’ cinematography contributes to the movie’s tonal problem, since it all feels too abstract, weirdly unmoored from the homefront realities it seeks to convey. The result is a bit of a morose muddle.

Watchable, but nothing memorable. Jane Russell has a couple good moments, but mostly doesn’t have much to do. Penny Singleton has the most impact. I can understand why both Ida Lupino and Joan Fontaine did not care to do this film.

This was so grainy I thought it was supposed to be dream sequences, or from very early talkie pictures. But 1948?! Good thing I took to the internet and found other TCM heads complaining about the quality!
Need to see what the fuss is about Jane Russell, cuz this was dull and she had nothing to do in it, save have great cheekbones.

The film is written and directed by Umesh Bist and also stars Sayani Gupta, Shrutii Sharma, Ashutosh Rana, Raghubir Yadav, Sheeba Chaddha, Meghna Malik and Rajesh Tailang. The Netflix film revolves around a young widow, essayed by Sanya Malhotra, who tries to find her own identity instead of mourning her husband’s death.
