Movies about Woman in a bubble bath
We can always count on Kate Beckinsale to tell it like it is. She’s basically the Quincy Jones of British leading ladies — at least when it comes to blowing the whistle on behind-the-scenes movie magic.
In an Instagram post that will have us reconsidering every single cinematic scene involving a bathtub, the podsvětí actress let her followers in on a little secret about how bubble baths stay foamy and fresh on the big screen. Spoiler: It involves a burly man’s hand and, not, like, an extra scoop of Mr. Bubbles.
«In case you were wondering how bubble baths stay bubbly on film sets,» she captioned a video of her mid-soak on an unidentified set. «Just like regular baths — just with more heavily tattooed stuntmen and flapping.»
Sure enough, stuntman Brendon Groenewald can be seen whipping the bath’s bubbles into a foamy frenzy. For Beckinsale’s sake, we hope she’s got a secret swimsuit on, and that her skin hasn’t gone all pruny from soaking in tepid water for take after take.
Anyway, that’s the magic of film-making for you: cold water, limp bubbles, human whirlpool jets, and not a Lush bath bomb in sight. Spare a thought for Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman A AUTOMATIZACI Notting Hill, Margot Robbie dovnitř The Big Short, Julianne Moore in Děti jsou v pořádku, and Al Pacino in Scarface. Heroes, each and every one.
Stay tuned for Beckinsale’s next big Hollywood exposé, which we can only hope will dig deep into why film and TV characters always wake up looking like they’ve spent an hour with a makeup artist. Enquiring minds want to know.
Many of our fabulous bubble bath bathers enjoyed diving into cinematography’s most iconic big-screen baths, so we decided to splash some more your way!
Last year, we brought you our most iconic bubble bath moments in cinematic history. We’re at it again. Here are our top 6 bubble bath scenes from movies that will make you want to replicate them in your home (well, at least most of them).
1. Pillow Talk (1959)
Let’s start by revisiting the classic Pillow Talk scene with Doris Day and Rock Hudson. In this popular romantic comedy, Hudson plays a Broadway composer and Day plays an interior designer. The two characters initially butt heads, but before long, frustrations turn to flirtations.
This film’s popular bubble bath time scenes include side-by-side screens showing Hudson and Day’s characters «sharing” a bath as their sultry one-liners sizzle through the phone. It’s interesting to note that the film’s widescreen format made these side-by-side baths scenes possible!
2. The Jerk (1979)
If we’re talking iconic baths, we can’t forget the 1979 film, The Jerk, and its infamous breakup scene. This comedy was produced in 1979 and features Steve Martin and Bernadette Peters. In his first starring role, Martin plays a comically oblivious character named Navin.
Navin ends up falling in love with a woman named Marie. The two eventually date, but by bath time, it’s not all rainbows and butterflies. In this scene, Navin enjoyed a bubble bath while professing his love and admiration for Marie who was on the other side of the door. Navin continued on and on as Marie rolled her eyes and slipped a breakup note under the door. Yikes! (Note to self: Don’t read any letters slipped under the door during bath time.)
3. A Hard Day’s Night (1964)
Těžký den v noci chronicles a day in the life of The Beatles. John Lennon’s bubble bath time scene certainly makes a splash. In this shot, John is seen playing submarines in a tub teeming with bubbles. While he is bathing, George and Shaker enter the bathroom and proceed to use the mirror for a shaving lesson because, well, why not?
Mid shaving stroke, John’s submarine is “attacked” and begins to sink. Subsequently, John sinks with it and seemingly disappears, channeling his inner Houdini. (If you’re ever going to teach someone how to shave a beard, consider watching this scene first.)
7 Most Iconic Bubble Baths Moments in Cinematic History
Lights, Camera, Bathtub!
For most, bath time is about relaxation and rejuvenation. Let’s be honest, the terms cinematography, glamour, and drama are most likely not ones that would be used to recount the average bathing routine. Here at TOA Waters, however, we’re not about average. With the 2021 Oscars approaching on Sunday, April 25, we thought you’d enjoy revisiting some of cinematography’s most iconic bubble bath splashes!
Cue the bubbles and soak in the spectacles because here we go!
1. Pretty Woman (1990)
This iconic film stars Julia Roberts who plays a young woman named Vivian. In this iconic sud-scene, Vivian is soaking in bubbles and singing her version of Prince’s Polibek. Few know that while filming this scene director Gary Marshall played a prank on Roberts. Marshall had all cast and crew leave the set. It took Roberts some time to notice while she was soaking in the bubble bath. Let’s just say she was none too pleased!
2. Fatal Attraction (1987)
In the final scene of this film, Alex Forrest is drowned and shot in the bathtub. That’s not a way for any bubble bath to end. This ending certainly made some waves in more ways than one. Unfortunately, after having her head dunked underwater more than fifty times, the leading actress developed both eye and nose infections while filming!
3. Some Like it Hot (1959)
This film stars Tony Curtis who played a character known as both Joe and Josephine. Director, Billy Wilder, later recalled that the bubble bath scene, which was only about two minutes in length, took an entire day to film because actress Marilyn Monroe was in a delicate state after having been ill the day before filming took place.
4. Dívka, přerušeno (1999)
In this film, Winona Ryder plays a teenager named Susanna Kaysen. Susanna is a teenager who has been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder and has been institutionalized. This film’s iconic bathtub scene involves Whoopi Goldberg’s character, Nurse Valerie, tossing Suassana into a tub filled with cold water. The Nurse’s intention is that Susanna will choose to take herself out of the tub just as the nurse hopes that her patient will work towards taking herself out of her destructive behaviors and the depression that grips her.
