Have you ever noticed the product placement of cars in these films?
To start off we have “Killers” which is a romantic comedy about a girl meeting the man in her life. The only thing is that he appears to be an assassin. In this clip you see a Volvo XC60.
Another love comedy is “She’s out of my league” where a “10 points” nice looking girl fall in love with a “5 points” looking guy. There is a run to the airport where we see a Volvo C30.
In the comedy adventure “My brother the pig” a small boy gets turned into a pig. His family is desperate trying to finding the spell to get him back to human shape. There are alot of Volvo C70 advertisement i this film.
Three American comedies in a row and it’s time for a French, dark thriller called “Lemming”. In Lemming (the Cannes opening film 2005),
the Volvo v50 was used alot.
On the honorable second place we have the Twilight series. The Twilight saga is about Bella, a normal girl, falling in love with a vampire. In all films out yet we can se alot of Volvo advertisement. In the second movie called “New moon” you see Edward driving around in a C30 and XC60.
At the first place we put “The Route V50” . It is a film starring Robert Downey Jr with a massive product placement of Volvo V50. The plot is about Robert searching for a place called Confidence. On the way there he finds different versions of himself. It is a short film really worth watching.
Whats the Deal with all the Volvos in the TV shows and Movies.
So I was just watching a show on Netflix and It starts with a group of friends riding their Volvo wagon somewhere. I am thinking this looks familiar and it seems like these beat up Volvos are quite common in TV shows/movies. I have not seen that many Volvos in the east coast maybe they are very common in the west coast? Maybe Hollywood loves these cars? or the company pays/sponsor them.

You do see a lot of them. For a TV show or movie probably to convey the image of sensible conservative upper middle class people.

Though I personally don’t believe in stereotypes, nevertheless, for many years, this was the typical public image for Volvos. Victorian-class schoolteachers and safety-advocates. Only relatively recently has that changed, although perhaps it started a few decades ago with the gradual conversion to FWD.

I used to deliver new Volvo’s to a product placement company in Burbank CA that would supply them to various shows.This is basically a free commercial for Volvo.
The 2017 Volvo Polestar was my favorite to drive it was basically a hot rod shooting brake.
The 1st non station wagon my dad bought was a 1974 Volvo 144 4-speed manual,thats what I learned to drive in.

We would fall into the safety category. Wife drove a Corolla when we met. When our son was born we bought her a late 80s 240 GL from a friend that was getting a new car. We liked it and then bought a 93 850, the first Volvo fwd car. It is one of my favorite all around vehicles. Fun to drive, good mpg, comfortable, and plenty of room (had transverse mounted 5 cyl). We followed that up with two S80s (2000 & 2006). She wanted something different, so we then got her a 2013 ES300h. Never had issues with any of the Volvos.
